Call to Worship  Psalm 34:1-3  Saara Spitzer

Praise to Our Risen King

"O Worship The King"  (arr. Wendell Kimbrough)

O worship the King, all glorious above,
O gratefully sing his power and his love;
Our Shield and Defender, the Ancient of Days,
pavilioned in splendor, and girded with praise.

O tell of his might, O sing of his grace,
whose robe is the light, whose canopy space.
His chariots of wrath the deep thunderclouds form,
and dark is his path on the wings of the storm.

Thy bountiful care, what tongue can recite?
It breathes in the air, it shines in the light.
It streams from the hills, it descends to the plain,
and sweetly distills in the dew and the rain.

Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail,
in thee do we trust, nor find thee to fail;
Thy mercies how tender, how firm to the end,
our Maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend.

Declaration of Trust & God's Greeting

People of Jesus Christ, in whom are you trusting?

Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

Grace, mercy and peace to you

in the name of the father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit

Time of Confession
Call to Confession  Titus 2:11-14

For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions,

and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us

to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.

Let us confess our sins to God.

Prayer of Confession

Almighty God,
you are able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine,

but we are afraid to ask boldly and imagine like a child.

We confess our narrow-mindedness.
We think we know how to minister well or how Sunday mornings

are supposed to look that we scoff at new forms of ministry and worship.
Broaden our imaginations to think of new ways to be the hands and feet

of Christ in the places to which you have called us.

We confess our nearsightedness.
We focus on your apparent absence on the here and now

that we cannot see what you are doing, and we lose sight of hope.
Renew our vision to see the ways you are making all things new

and raising to life that which we once thought was dead.

We confess our deafness.
We hear the truth and grace of your Gospel, but we do not listen.

The Gospel sounds more like “old news” than Good News, or it sounds too good to be true.
Open our ears to hear the deep goodness of the Gospel anew,

and to believe that the Good News is for us.

We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ, who was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

Words of Assurance  (inspired by Revelation 21)

there is a new heaven,
   a new earth
      and a new city,
where the river of life flows,
where the tree of life bears fruit in every season.

This heaven,
   this city,
      this river,
         this tree
are a vision of your life
   reborn, restored, and renewed.

Thanks be to God!

 Sharing Christ's Peace

Because God has given us his peace, we are invited to share the peace of Christ with others. Whether digitally through a text message or by turning to someone next to you, share the peace of Christ now with the words: "The peace of Christ be with you!" If you are on the receiving end of these words, you are invited to reply, "And also with you."

The Peace of Christ be with you.

          And also with you!

A life of generosity, for all who know Christ, means the opportunity to draw closer to God, now and in eternity. It means joy, a fulfilled heart, and the potential to store up treasures in heaven. Once you take hold of it, once you begin to feel the change generosity brings into your life, you will feel a strong calling to share the message with others.

Song of Preparation: "Happy Are Those"  (The Psalm Project, The Netherlands)

Please join in a song of preparation as we come to the hearing and preaching of God's Word.

Happy are those who heed the word of God
who seek to do no evil or injustice.
They are the Lord's and they respect his laws
for he is just and all his ways are wondrous.
His path is right, and his Word makes us strong.
Help us, O Lord, to follow your commandments.

Lord, deal with me and teach me to obey.
Your righteousness, your perfect laws delight me.
Sometimes I'm lost; I wander and I stray.
Come take me home, my Shepherd walk beside me.
I will delight in everything you say.
Search me, O God. Your Word will always guide me.

With all my heart, with all my strength,
Lord, I will obey you.

For he is just, and all his ways are wondrous.
His path is right, and his Word makes us strong.
Help us, O Lord, to follow your commandments.

Benediction (unison)

And now, to Jesus Christ, who loves us

and freed us from our sins by his blood

and made us to be a kingdom,

priests of his God and Father,

to him be glory and dominion forever and ever.
