Up to the hills I lift my eyes, where does my help come from?

My help comes from the Lord. My help comes from the Lord.

He will not let you slip or fall, he never rests or sleeps.

Call to Confession  Psalm 95:6-7a

Come, let us bow down in worship,
    let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;
7 for he is our God
and we are the people of his pasture,
    the flock under his care.

Prayers of Confession

Living God, you spoke clearly

through prophets, kings, and judges.

You speak to us today

through Scripture and a Son.

If we hear your voice today,

let us not harden our hearts.

Lord, you said, “Let your light shine before others”

We confess that we dim our light

when the darkness overwhelms us.

[silence]

Lord, you said, “When you pray, go into your room,

close the door and pray to your Father.”

We confess that we choose to be pompous in our piety.

[silence]

Lord you said, “Do not worry about tomorrow,

for tomorrow will worry about itself.”

We confess that our lives are often consumed by worry and anxiety.

[silence]

Lord, you said, “If you remain in me and I in you,

you will bear much fruit.”

Forgive us our barren lives.

[silence]

Lord, you said, “Love each other as I have loved you.”

Forgive us for our lukewarm love.

[silence]

By your Spirit, turn our eyes away from vanity

and renew our lives to be more like Jesus.

If we hear your voice today, let us not harden our hearts.

Amen.

Words of Assurance  Romans 8:5-11

Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.

You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.

WORD OF GOD

Sermon Scripture

Read Psalm 95 aloud

1 Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord;
let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
2 Let us come before him with thanksgiving
and extol him with music and song.

3 For the Lord is the great God,
the great King above all gods.
4 In his hand are the depths of the earth,
and the mountain peaks belong to him.
5 The sea is his, for he made it,
and his hands formed the dry land.

6 Come, let us bow down in worship,
    let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;
7 for he is our God
and we are the people of his pasture,
    the flock under his care.

Today, if only you would hear his voice,
8 “Do not harden your hearts as you did at Meribah,
as you did that day at Massah in the wilderness,
9 where your ancestors tested me;
they tried me, though they had seen what I did.
10 For forty years I was angry with that generation;
I said, ‘They are a people whose hearts go astray,
and they have not known my ways.’
11 So I declared on oath in my anger,
‘They shall never enter my rest.’”

      CELEBRATION AT THE LORD'S TABLE

*Use full or abridged communion liturgy below if you choose.

Jesus said, “I am the bread of life.

Whoever comes to me will never be hungry,

and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”

John 6:35

Meaning of the Sacrament

Beloved in the Lord Jesus Christ,

the Holy Supper we are about to celebrate

is a feast of remembrance, of communion, and of hope.

We come remembering that our Lord Jesus Christ

perfectly fulfilled the law, even to death on the cross.

Because of God’s eternal covenant of grace, we are accepted.

We will never be forsaken.

We come to commune with this same Christ

who has promised to be with us always.

Christ is the true Bread which nourishes us

and the Vine in whom we must live if we are to bear fruit.

The Holy Spirit unites us into one body

and in communion with all the saints.

So we receive this supper in Christ’s love

and our affection for one another.

We come in hope believing that

as surely as we eat this bread and drink this cup,

we will be raised from the dead into eternal life.

This is the Lord’s Table. Come, for all things are now ready.

Communion Prayer

The Lord be with you.

And also with you.

Lift up your hearts.

We lift them up to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right to give our thanks and praise.

It is right, and a good and joyful thing,

always and everywhere to give thanks to you,

almighty and everlasting God.

You created the heavens and the earth;

you preserve us with your care;

you revealed the fullness of your love for us

by sending Jesus Christ.

By his life, death, and resurrection

you have reconciled us to yourself.

With the heavenly host

and with the saints of all times and places,

we lift up our hearts in joyful praise, saying:

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,

heaven and earth are full of your glory.

Hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna in the highest.

Gracious God,

send your Holy Spirit upon us, we pray,

that the bread which we break

and the cup which we bless

may be to us the communion

of the body and blood of Christ.

Accept the gift of our lives

that we may live in you and serve your kingdom.

Being joined together in Christ,

may your whole church be one;

and at the last day bring us with all your saints

into the joy of your eternal kingdom.

Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

Amen.

Words of Institution

The Lord Jesus, the same night he was betrayed, took bread;

and when he had given thanks,

he broke it

(Break the bread)

Jesus broke the bread and gave it to his disciples, saying,

“Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you:

do this in remembrance of me.”

(Lift the cup)

After the same manner also, he took the cup when they had eaten,

saying, “This cup is the new testament in my blood:

this do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

Sharing of the Bread and Cup

As the bread is distributed say to one another:

The Body of Christ, broken for you.

As the cup is distributed, say to one another:

The Blood of Christ, shed for you.

O Praise the Name       Hillsong

I cast my mind to Calvary
Where Jesus bled and died for me
I see His wounds His hands His feet
My Savior on that cursed tree

His body bound and drenched in tears
They laid Him down in Joseph's tomb
The entrance sealed by heavy stone
Messiah still and all alone

O praise the Name of the Lord our God
O praise His Name forevermore
For endless days we will sing Your praise
Oh Lord oh Lord our God

Then on the third at break of dawn
The Son of heaven rose again
O trampled death where is your sting
The angels roar for Christ the King

He shall return in robes of white
The blazing sun shall pierce the night
And I will rise among the saints
My gaze transfixed on Jesus' face

The Lord's Prayer
Pray aloud

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil.
For your is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

Oh, Give Thanks  (Psalm 107)        Wendell Kimbrough

1.We were wand’ring in the dessert, with our souls so starved and weak

We were hungry for a homeland we did not know how to seek

But we lifted up our voices to the only one who hears

and the God of mercy came and brought us near

CHORUS

Oh give thanks to the Lord for his love endures forever!

We were wandering and lost, and our Father brought us home

to a safe dwelling place, to a feast of joy and laughter

Oh, give thanks to the Lord for he is good

2. We were locked out of the garden and our backs bent down with pain

In the shadow of death’s darkness, we were slaves to sin and blame

Then we cried out in our labor to the only One who hears

and the God of mercy came and brought us near (CHORUS)

3. We were fools in our rebellion with our hunger strike of pride

We were sick and growing closer to the death we should have died

Then he heard of our condition and he called us by our names

and the God of glory took away our shame (CHORUS)

4. We were far out on the ocean making wealth and chasing dreams

But the waves of great destruction brought us trembling to our knees

And we cried like drunken sailors to the only One who hears

and the God of comfort took away our fears (CHORUS)

Blessing
